Why BAH! Discover Exists

Sabah doesn’t need another tourism directory. It needs a better way to be discovered.

That simple thought is why we created BAH! Discover.

There is already plenty of information about Sabah online. Search for Kota Kinabalu, Kundasang, Semporna or Sandakan and you’ll find thousands of results telling you where to stay, what attractions to visit and which tours to book.

But Sabah is much bigger than a list of attractions.

There is the tiny kedai that locals have been eating at for decades. The young Sabahan doing something unexpectedly brilliant. A village with a story few outsiders have heard. An independent business worth supporting. A new place everyone is quietly talking about. A cultural tradition we shouldn’t allow to disappear. An experience that won’t necessarily appear on the first page of Google.

That’s the Sabah we’re interested in.

We’re Not Trying to Tell You Everything About Sabah

And that’s what makes BAH! Discover different.

We’re not building the biggest directory. We’re not trying to list every hotel, restaurant, attraction and tour operator. And we’re certainly not interested in copying information that already exists elsewhere.

We curate. We discover. We tell stories. We connect the dots.

Think of BAH! Discover as your local plug in Sabah — the friend who tells you:

• “Don’t just go there. Since you’re nearby, check this out too.”
• “Everyone knows this place, but have you heard the story behind it?”

We want discovery to feel human again.

Local First, Always

One principle sits at the heart of BAH! Discover:

If tourism grows, more Sabahans should benefit from it.

That means looking beyond the obvious tourism players.

• Small businesses matter.
• Local creators matter.
• Community operators matter.
• Craftspeople matter.
• Independent cafés matter.
• Young entrepreneurs matter.
• Rural communities matter.

The people keeping Sabah’s stories, food, traditions and places alive matter.

Instead of simply asking, “How do we bring more tourists to Sabah?”, we think there is another equally important question:

“When they come, how do we help them discover more of Sabah — and ensure more of that spending reaches local people?”

That’s the space BAH! Discover wants to occupy.

More Than Tourism

We also don’t believe Sabah should only be interesting to tourists.

BAH! Discover is for Sabahans too.

Sometimes we travel thousands of kilometres overseas but haven’t discovered what’s happening two districts away. Sometimes a traveller knows more about a local attraction than the people living nearby. Sometimes something exciting opens in Sabah and we hear about it months later.

So you’ll find us talking about food, people, culture, nature, communities, local businesses, ideas and things worth experiencing.

Some will be famous. Others won’t be.

That’s intentional.

Because discovery should occasionally surprise you.

We Want Sabah’s Stories Told by Sabah

Another important part of what we’re building is creating more opportunities for local voices.

Sabah doesn’t lack stories. We have thousands of them.

What we need are more people documenting them, interpreting them and bringing them into the digital world.

That includes young creators, photographers, writers, storytellers and ordinary Sabahans who understand their communities better than any visitor ever could.

Over time, we want BAH! Discover to become a platform where those voices help shape how Sabah is discovered.

Not just:

“Come visit Sabah.”

But:

“Come understand Sabah.”

There is a difference.

Discovery Can Create Economic Impact

Every story has the potential to lead somewhere.

1. You read about a small café.
2. You visit.
3. You discover another business next door.
4. You buy something.
5. You tell a friend.
6. Someone shares the story.
7. Another person visits.

A RM10 coffee may seem insignificant. Multiply that behaviour across thousands of people and suddenly discovery becomes economic activity.

That is why we believe content itself can become infrastructure.

Good discovery helps move people. And when people move beyond the obvious places, money moves with them.

That’s good for local businesses, communities and Sabah.

We’re Building Slowly — On Purpose

BAH! Discover won’t become Sabah’s biggest platform overnight. Nor do we need it to.

We would rather feature 100 things genuinely worth discovering than publish 10,000 listings nobody remembers.

We want to explore. Ask questions. Meet people. Find stories. Experiment. And occasionally point you somewhere you never expected to go.

Because ultimately, BAH! Discover isn’t here simply to promote Sabah.

We’re here to help Sabah be discovered differently.

By travellers. By businesses. By the world.

And perhaps most importantly—

By Sabahans ourselves.
